Welcome to the Asheville School Language & Math Placement Center! To review our standard academic course progressions, please CLICK HERE. To indicate an AFTERNOON ACTIVITY PREFERENCE for the Fall Term, please CLICK HERE. The following Foreign Language Assessments are designed to help us correctly place you in the appropriate level of French, Spanish, or Latin. This placement will NOT affect your grade in any way. Language Placement Exam Links: If you have NEVER taken ANY language courses, CLICK HERE to indicate your preference for a First Year Language course -- you'll be able to select either French I, Spanish I, or Chinese I. After you have indicated your preference for a first year course, there is no need for you to provide any other placement information. If you have had SOME foreign language experience, please read and follow the directions below: We offer four-year programs in French, Spanish, and Chinese. If you have previously studied Spanish or French, please complete the appropriate placement test (see below) to help us match your abilities with the correct level of study. Beginning next year, we will no longer be offering Latin I or Latin II as language courses. If, however, you have already studied Latin and wish to continue in Latin III or IV, please contact me directly. Spanish Placement Test | French Placement Test If you are interested in beginning or continuing studies in Chinese, we ask that you contact that teacher directly -- Mr. Rod Becker ( beckerr@ashevilleschool.org ) -- to learn more about that program. It is critical that you take the time to answer the questions on the placement test to the best of your ability without the aid of books, dictionaries, or other resources (i.e. - parents, friends, family, or computer resources). The questions on the test gradually get more complex. It is likely that you will be unfamiliar with some of the vocabulary or conjugations. Do not let that worry you. We want to assess what you already know; complete as many answers as possible, even if only partially. You will have one hour to complete your language assessment. Please make sure you can take it someplace quiet where you will not be disturbed. Once you begin the assessment, you must complete it. You will not be able to exit and return to your test. Use the appropriate link below to begin your test when you are ready. The following Math Placement Assessments help us to ensure that you are enrolled in the appropriate math class.
