"About a Boy": Daniel Thompson PapersIn the fall of 1900, Charles Mitchell and Newton Anderson proudly greeted the first boys to their newly opened school in the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains. For most, this was the first time they had been away from home. For some, Asheville School was the first real academic challenge of their young lives. For some, this new experience was the first real test of growing up. The Class of 1923 Memorial Archives is privileged to hold the memorabilia and papers of alumni of this school. One such collection came from Daniel Thompson. Originally a member of the Class of 1906, Daniel entered school with that first group of boys in September 1900. The collection consists of wonderful photographs of Daniel playing in and exploring the world around him, letters his father wrote to him, and letters he himself wrote to the school of his memories of his short time at AS. Later, Daniel's family sent several items they found after his death. For information
